Kitchen So far……...

First thing I wanted to do was get this beautiful wallpaper down! If you ever have to do this, please use a steamer. It can be messy, but totally worth it. 

It took me 4 days to get all of this down. The process is slow, but works really well. 

This sink has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. I love it! Its a cast iron, 1954 stamped, washboard sink. I found a guy on Etsy who finds these beautiful sinks, along with other items, and brings them back to life. He's  located in Louisiana if any of you are interested.  I can't wait to wash leafy greens, eggs and vegetables in it. Joseph said that we can one day give our children a bath in it its so deep! 

While removing cabinets and such, we found this 1950's record about the one and only Billy Graham. 

This amazing ceiling was built by my sweet husband. I asked him if I could have one like this and he went above and beyond! It looks even better in person. 

This is just an example of how old our house is. Years of different paint colors hidden on the walls. 

Since our house is almost 100 years old, Joseph is having to replace all the electrical work. Oh well, modern day touches are somewhat of a safety issue, rather than a want. 

There will be more to come as we finish the kitchen. We're hoping to have it completed in two weeks. We have all the pieces to the puzzle. Just have to put them all together. 

Kitchen Renovation

This will be my most favorite project for the whole house I think. This kitchen, to me, is the most important room in our home. Between all of our decisions, frustrations, and knowledge with this kitchen…..we have decided to keep the original layout, 1960's cabinets, and beautiful oak floors. So let the process begin. My sweet husband Joseph has done so much already, it's moving super fast.

YES!!!! Hardwood floors are there! I was so excited to find these! 

These beautiful floors were so damaged. Years of tar, glue, and floors sitting on top of them. I worked very hard to save them. Finished product to come. 

This is were we will stop with the floors….I have to keep you guessing for when the kitchen will be completed. 

My Sweet Mommy always helping me! This is our pantry. It was the original service entrance for maids and handymen. 

She's always making sure we are well taken care of! Pizza!

"Love thy neighbor. Build thy fence." In memory of my Grandaddy

Since our house has been empty for 15 years, the yard as somewhat been…ignored. It's still a very nice yard, just needs some love and care. Why not start with a fence for the puppies and chickens?  My sweet Aunt Josie, Uncle Jamie, cousin Matthew, my daddy, my sister Abby, my mom, and my sweet Joseph all worked together to make us a beautiful fence. My Granddaddy would be proud. 

 The man in charge! Uncle Jamie did an amazing job on our fence. We couldn't have done this without him. 

 Matthew is like, "Joe I got this."

The finished product! We have to wait several weeks before we can paint it, but I think it will be such a cute white picket fence. I've always wanted one!

Mirrors and Fireplaces

I know it has been a few weeks since I last blogged, but…..Happy 1 month Anniversary to us! That's right, Joseph and I have been in our beautiful house for a whole month. Within the last few weeks we've moved, started renovating, and already making new memories.  On moving day the guys decided to take down a 4 ft tall mirror from above one of our fireplaces. Now, needless to say it did take 5 grown men to do so but, we got it down! 

After taking this mirror down we discovered a surprise! This is original hand painted wall paper from the 1920's. Who knows how long this was covered? 

I really want to cut out a piece of this and frame it. I would like to keep it up (not really) but I do want to keep some of the memories and character from our beautiful home. 

I hope that I can save some of this. 

Since we're Talking about fireplaces…

First Fire in our new house! 

Character Restored

With buying a 91 year old house you never know what you're going to find. Yesterday we had our chimney's and fireplaces cleaned and were told that not only were there dead animals inside the 3 of them, but there was carbon monoxcide leaking inside the house. So……..long story short we need to get our fireplace working and safe.

The next item on our restoring character list are the floors. Thankfully the only floors that were covered by icky 70's linoleum floors were the hallway and kitchen. Under two layers of glue and plastic, we realized that these floors are worth saving!  After hours and hours of scrapping and using a heat gun we saw the beauty of these 91 year old floors. Why anyone would want to cover them up is beyond me. 

My Sweet BFF Kelly came and helped us pull up nails and staples. Her puppy Tank, was the supervisor!

Trier and Max love the new house too. Much bigger to run a round in! Max is very scared of the basement, but we hope it grows on him. 

This is an example of the "old lady" curtains. They were everywhere and kept out so much light. After Joseph and my dad took them all down, the house came to life once more!
